Abu Dhabi and Saadiyat in May
May is when the heat arrives and the low season begins. There are few Abu Dhabi events in May apart from Eid Al Adha, but the sea is warm, turtles are still nesting, and hotels cost less than in winter.
Daytime air 39°C (102°F)
Sea 29°C (84°F)- Rainy days: 0
Crowds: Low
Is May a good time to go?
Yes, if you plan around the heat. Mornings and evenings on the beach are fine, and the middle of the day belongs to museums and malls. In return, you get warm water, quieter beaches and lower prices.
What to do
- Swim early and late. The sea is about 29°C (84°F). By late morning the sun is fierce, so be on the beach by 8:00 or after 16:00.
- Turtle nesting, second peak month. May is the second of the two peak months for hawksbill turtles on Saadiyat's beaches.
- Plan indoor afternoons. The Cultural District museums, Saadiyat's air-conditioned cafés and the city's malls fill the hottest hours.
- Eid Al Adha. The holiday is expected on 16 or 17 May 2027 and is a public holiday in the UAE; the exact date depends on the moon and is confirmed only a few days before.
Prices and crowds
May starts the low season. Crowds drop noticeably, and hotel and apartment prices fall below winter levels; Visit Abu Dhabi names April and May as slightly cheaper months. If you want warm water and lower prices without the full summer heat, early May is the time.
