Privacy Policy

Saadiyat Travel Guide (saadiyatislandguide.com) is an independent travel guide to Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi. This policy explains what data the site processes when you use it, why, and what you can do about it. In short: no cookies, no ads, no third-party trackers, and nothing you need to accept.

Who is responsible

Saadiyat Travel Guide publishes this site and is responsible for the data described here. For any question about your data, write to info@saadiyatislandguide.com.

Visit statistics without cookies

To see which pages are useful, we count visits with Umami, an open-source statistics tool that runs on our own server. No data goes to Google or any other analytics company.

For each page view, the statistics record the page address and title, the site you came from, your browser's language and screen size, and, worked out on our server, your browser, operating system, type of device and country. Your IP address is used only to look up the country and is not stored. To tell visits apart without cookies, the tool derives a code from your IP address and browser details; the code changes every month and can't be turned back into your IP address.

We look at these statistics only as totals, such as how many people read a guide or which countries readers come from. We process them because we have a legitimate interest in understanding how the guide is used and making it better (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). We keep them while they are useful for that and then delete them.

Server logs

Like any website, our web server keeps a technical log of requests: IP address, time, the address requested, the site you came from and your browser's user agent. We need it to keep the site running and secure, for example to find errors and block abusive traffic, which is also our legitimate interest. Log entries are deleted after up to 30 days.

When you go to a partner

Some buttons take you to partner sites, such as hotel booking, ticket and tour services. These links go through our own address (/go/), which sends you on to the partner with our affiliate tag and a label naming the page and the button, so the partner can credit the guide. The affiliate links are run by Travelpayouts. If you chose dates and guests in a hotel price form, they are added to the link so the partner can show matching prices.

When the redirect happens, our server counts the click: the time, the language and page, the button and the partner. It records no IP address, no browser details and nothing else about you. These counts are kept for up to 13 months.

From that moment you are on the partner's site. Your browser connects to it directly, so the partner and Travelpayouts see your visit as any website would, may set their own cookies and handle your data under their own privacy policies. We don't receive your name, contact details or payment details from bookings.

Cookies and trackers

This site sets no cookies and saves nothing in your browser's storage. It loads no advertising, social media or third-party tracking code. Fonts, icons, maps and images come from our own server, so opening a page doesn't contact any other company. That's why there is no cookie banner.

Who else sees the data

The statistics and logs stay on our server, which our hosting provider runs on our behalf. We don't sell the data or share it with anyone else, unless the law requires us to.

Your rights

Under the GDPR and the UK GDPR you can ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, restrict its use, and object to it being used on the basis of our legitimate interest. To use any of these rights, write to info@saadiyatislandguide.com, and we will reply within one month. Because the statistics and click counts don't identify you, we may not be able to link any of them to you; if so, we will tell you.

If you think we handle your data wrongly, you can complain to the data protection authority in your country. In the UK, that is the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

Changes to this policy

If what the site collects changes, we will update this page and the effective date at the top.
