Abu Dhabi and Saadiyat in January

Abu Dhabi in January is at its coolest: sunny days, chilly evenings by Gulf standards, and the busiest, most expensive weeks of the year straight after New Year.

  • Daytime air 24°C (75°F)
  • Sea 22°C (72°F)
  • Rainy days: 2
  • Crowds: High
Peak season

Is January a good time to go?

Yes, if you want to be outdoors all day. January is one of the most comfortable months for walking, museums and city sightseeing. The sea is at its coolest, though, so swimmers who want warm water should look at November or April instead. Book early: this is peak season.

What to do

  • Spend whole days outside. The heat that limits sightseeing for half the year is gone. Walk the Mamsha promenade, combine the Louvre Abu Dhabi with the beach on the same day, or take a full-day tour of the city.
  • Swim if you don't mind fresh water. The sea is about 22°C (72°F). Go in around midday, when the sun is strongest; mornings and evenings feel cool on the beach.
  • See the museums in one trip. The Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Zayed National Museum, the Natural History Museum and teamLab Phenomena are all in the Cultural District, and so is the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, whose opening is planned for 11 December 2026.
  • Catch the winter festivals. The Sheikh Zayed Festival at Al Wathba runs until 14 March 2027. The Saadiyat Nights open-air concerts ran in January and February 2026; the 2027 program had not been announced as of October 2026. More dates are in our Abu Dhabi events guide.

Prices and crowds

January is peak season. The New Year holidays make the first week the most crowded and the most expensive, and after that hotels stay busy and prices stay high. Book flights and hotels several weeks ahead.
