Flying to Abu Dhabi
Saadiyat Travel Guide editorial team · Published 2 October 2026

Flights to Abu Dhabi land at Zayed International Airport (AUH), and most nonstop flights from the US and Europe are operated by Etihad Airways. As of October 2026, Etihad flies nonstop from six US cities, London Heathrow and several cities in continental Europe. The fastest nonstop takes about 7 hr from London and about 13 hr from New York.

In 2026, flight schedules across the region have changed several times because of the conflict involving Iran, and as of October 2026 some flights to Abu Dhabi run on adjusted timetables. Check your flight status with the airline before you fly; more on the current situation is in our Abu Dhabi travel tips.

Nonstop flights to Abu Dhabi from the US
Etihad flies nonstop to Abu Dhabi from six US cities; we found no US airline on the route. As of October 2026:
- New York (JFK)
- Washington (Dulles, IAD)
- Chicago (O'Hare, ORD)
- Boston (BOS)
- Atlanta (ATL), since July 2025
- Charlotte (CLT), since 2026, four flights a week
Etihad no longer flies to Los Angeles. From the West Coast and other US cities, you connect in Europe, the Gulf or one of the cities above. Frequencies change by season, so check the current timetable on etihad.com.
Flights from the UK and Ireland
- London Heathrow: Etihad flies nonstop and has announced up to four daily flights for winter 2026/27. British Airways has also flown the route, but its restart date for this winter has changed more than once; check ba.com.
- Other UK airports and Ireland: we could not confirm a nonstop flight from Manchester or Dublin as of October 2026; a flight search will show connections.
Flights from Europe
Etihad flies nonstop to Abu Dhabi from major European cities, including Paris (CDG), Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Zurich and Copenhagen. For winter 2026/27 it has also announced new routes from Luxembourg, Gothenburg and Bucharest. Some European airlines add seasonal flights in winter.
Frequencies change from season to season, and some 2026 schedules were cut or moved at short notice, so check etihad.com or a flight search for your city and dates.
Which airlines fly to Abu Dhabi?
Etihad Airways, the UAE's national airline, is based at Zayed International and is the one to look at first: it is the only airline we found on every nonstop route listed above. British Airways has flown London to Abu Dhabi seasonally, and some European carriers add winter flights, so a flight search for your dates is worth a look.
Three questions come up often:
- Does Delta, United or American fly to Abu Dhabi? We found no US airline on the route. Americans fly nonstop with Etihad or connect.
- Does Emirates fly to Abu Dhabi? Emirates is based in Dubai and flies to Dubai (DXB). It doesn't serve Abu Dhabi as a destination, but its tickets are an option if you land in Dubai and take the train or a taxi.
- Who flies from Australia? Etihad flies nonstop from Sydney and Melbourne; the fastest flights take about 13 hr 40 min and 13 hr 50 min.
How long is the flight to Abu Dhabi?
The table shows the fastest nonstop flight to Abu Dhabi listed on Etihad's route pages, as of October 2026. The way back takes a different time, because of winds and routing.
Times differ by direction and aircraft, and some 2026 schedules have been adjusted, so plan by the time on your ticket. Etihad also flies nonstop from Amsterdam and Copenhagen; the booking page shows the time for your date.
Connecting flights to Abu Dhabi
If your city has no nonstop flight, you connect once. From the US West Coast and smaller US airports, the usual routes run through Etihad's US gateways above or through a European hub. Etihad stopped flying to Los Angeles. From the UK outside London, and from Ireland, a flight search will show one-stop options.
Book the whole trip on one ticket: if the first flight is late, the airline rebooks you, which it doesn't do for two separate bookings. Leave at least two to three hours for an international change.
Etihad stopover in Abu Dhabi
If you fly Etihad return with a stop in Abu Dhabi of at least 24 hours, you can book the stopover offer: one or two free hotel nights at selected hotels, as of October 2026, with breakfast not included. Reserve at least 72 hours before you arrive; hotel places are limited. The airport side of a layover, such as lounges and the transit hotel, is in our Abu Dhabi airport guide.
When are flights cheapest?
We don't quote fares: they change daily. Visit Abu Dhabi lists April and May as the cheapest time to go. Prices are highest in the main season, October to March, and around the Formula 1 Grand Prix in December. Dates for 2026–27 are in Abu Dhabi events; weather by month is in best time to visit.
Abu Dhabi (AUH) or Dubai (DXB)?
Fly into Abu Dhabi if there is a nonstop flight from your city: Saadiyat Island is about 25 min by taxi from AUH. Flying into Dubai makes sense when:
- there is no nonstop flight to Abu Dhabi from your city, but there is one to Dubai;
- the Dubai flight is cheaper or fits your dates better, even after you add the transfer;
- you plan to spend part of the trip in Dubai.
From Dubai airport to Saadiyat is about 1 hr 20 min by road; a taxi costs about AED 380 (≈ $103). You don't need a flight between the two cities: the Etihad Rail train from Dubai takes about 1 hr, and buses and taxis also run. All options are in Dubai to Abu Dhabi.
Flights to Saadiyat Island
There is no airport on Saadiyat Island: you fly to Abu Dhabi (AUH). The island is about 30 km from the airport, 25 min by taxi. Taxis, ride-hailing and transfers are covered in our Abu Dhabi airport guide; for hotels, see Saadiyat hotels and where to stay in Abu Dhabi.
Before you fly, check the entry rules for your passport in our Abu Dhabi visa guide. What the rest of the trip costs: Abu Dhabi trip cost.
